Efteling | Danse Macabre | Intamin Dynamic Motion Stage | 2024

I rode it this week for the first time and I was initially very worried about the spinning (I usually avoid rides with any kind of spinning as I do suffer from motion sickness) but with Danse Macabre I found the sensation to be just about bearable for me and it did not make me feel nauseous at all. I do wonder if the ride system is capable of being more forceful but it’s maybe toned down a bit for the Efteling audience? I especially felt this on the dropping section - I felt like that was actually not that forceful and I wanted a bit more from it to be honest!

Overall I did love the ride. As others have said it is a full experience, with the spookiness of the whole area being very well achieved (especially at night). Especially as Efteling do not run a Halloween event, this does fill a certain hole for them. I never experienced Spookslot so cannot comment on that experience versus this one. Danse Macabre has some really cool effects and I also really like how Efteling have already incorporated the classical music piece that the ride is based on into some of their other experiences such as the Aquanura fountain show.

Overall it’s a great experience - is it my favourite ride in the park? No that’s still Symbolica but Danse Macabre is definitely now up there with Efteling’s impressive collection of dark rides.

Spoilers, but Intamin have shared a lovely clip which shows the underneath of the ride when it's in motion...

It's fantastic!
Me and the goons minced over to Belgium and the Netherlands last weekend and Danse Macabre was undoubtedly one of, if not the highlight of the trip. I absolutely loved it. New favourite ride at Efteling, new favourite dark ride in Europe and possibly the best dark ride outside of Disney and Universal.
It's one of those rare occasions where ride hardware and thematic concept are married perfectly and, in a way only Efteling know how, executed flawlessly. It's a piece of theatre, it's a work of art and it's unlike anything else you've ever been on. It's the most Efteling thing ever, and if you love Efteling as much as I do, if you 'get' it, then you'll 100% love Danse Macabre.
Brilliant, brilliant ride.

Danse macabre got an upgraded ride program today. From what I've heard it got updated (and possibly more intense) movement, more colourful lighting, animatronics springing to life sooner in the ride sequence, higher quality projections and more. Excited to try it next week :)

On the face of it - exciting news, but are we sure that this person wasn't just 'noticing' things for the first time? It's a very overwhelming ride, with multiple seating orientations pointing in multiple different directions, with all those different animatronics popping up in different windows.
I just got back from 2 full days there, rode DM about 6 or 7 times and was still noticing new details every time, including differing sensations in ride movement, different lighting effects, new animatronics etc... all depending on where you started from.

I understand your theory but they really did change the program abruptly overnight, today was the first day using it.
looopings even reported on it.

edit: pov for those interested
around the 2 minute mark you can see the ride do a surprise drop, so there's 2 drops now

Ugh that looks so much better and it was already near perfect! We rode it a month ago and thought it was absolutely fantastic but thought the first part of the ride lacked visuals, this helps! And more drops? Perfect.

Well that seems fairly conclusive, then! Thanks for sharing the link @Jerrybubbles . Looks great. ☺️
