Six Flags Great America | Wrath of Rakshasa | B&M Dive Coaster | 2025

I received an invite to the media day, which will be Thursday, May 22nd. That means commercial shooting will be the day before, and passholder previews should begin on Friday, May 23rd, with the public opening on Saturday, May 24th.

Looks like I'll be there on opening day!

Remember it's not using the holding brake yet... that'll shave off a few mph.

The layout has a nice length to it, but it doesn't look particularly exciting after that third inversion. And then there's the B&M smoothness these days...
Do we know when they will start to use it? I can’t wait to say it looks slow 😜

It’s encouraging to hear that B&M has seemingly taken some feedback on board regarding the recent rattles; Big Bad Wolf is seemingly a lot smoother than Phoenix Rising, and Wrath of Rakshasa looks a lot smoother than Iron Menace!

Maybe B&M’s rattles were just a brief blip rather than a long term trend?

I was gonna say, while it does seem like an improvement over Iron Menace, Rakshasa still appears to have a consistent/minor rattle throughout the whole layout, judging by that ridercam.

Front middle is probably going to be the desirable seat.

Oops. Got that wrong. The weather pushed back the commercial shoot and the public opening will be May 31st. A bit of a bummer for the park not to have it open for the holiday weekend.

Looks fast, which is a pleasant surprise. That said, not shocked to hear that it's a bit shakey already, plus vests on a dive coaster will always be a downgrade from the traditional OSTRs in my books. Feels like the classic dive coasters are still never to be outdone in that regard!

Grand opening was today!

So far am hearing good things. For a nice Saturday opening they were able to keep waits well below an hour thanks to military efficiency dispatches and minimal interruptions. Seating is assigned, there is no choosing or waiting on rows. Backpacks and larger bags can't go into the flying bins system, if you don't leave it in a locker you will be made to cross the platform with them. Some people say there's a rattle, most say it runs quite well. Looking forwards to riding next weekend.

Rode this once today, front row edge seat on the left. Could have done more but we had a very very stacked day.

Presentation is superb even though there’s more yet to be done. Operations kept the line moving right up until they began training someone a few trains before boarding, usually you can expect this line to move incredibly well.

There’s been some complaints of a rattle, but I only really felt it at the valley after the drop. It wasn’t the rattly piece of garbage that some say it is, but the drop stapled me and the train was vibrating enough for my belt to really chafe my torso. Just a personal observation, doesn’t hurt to point out.

Layout is great and fast, the inversions really throw you around and the pacing is on point. I like to think of it as a fun looping coaster rather than a true dive like Yukon Striker. Overall great for the park, I give it an 8/10.

Just rode this twice yesterday.

Honestly? A for effort. I still have problems with dive coasters as a concept, but this seemed to be a step in the right direction. Good rolling elements dominate this layout, the best being that third inversion twisting up to that downward helix. There’s effort here to make dive coasters more than just slow Immelmanns and meandering, the layout actually does stuff and it’s great.

My complaints were just that it’s a little rattly and there’s a big kerchunk on that S-bend thing into that helix. I still think Yukon Striker reigns supreme but this is a very solid second.

Rode it twice last week. I wish I had better things to say.

The good first:
The layout is great. It’s dynamic, has good pacing, and there is a good mix of modern B&M flow with more old school whip. It’s also the only dive I’ve done that actually feels like a complete and cohesive ride.

The unfortunate next:
First ride was in the front row one seat off the middle. This was a pretty enjoyable ride. I wouldn’t call it “rough” in this seat, but there was a comically bad shuffle any time the layout generated any sort of lateral forces. It was not uncomfortable, but it did grab my attention. It wasn’t just a little shimmy, more of an “Oh we are really shaking from side to side here rather a lot aren’t we?”

Second ride was in row three in an outside seat. Rode like absolute garbage. Not just a rattle, but actual jackhammering through most of the layout. It was one of the incredibly rare moments I have been on a roller coaster while thinking “please let this be over soon.” I went into this trip thinking all of the enthusiasts complaining about rattly new B&Ms were exaggerating because, well, the internet. I no longer think that. It’s even worse.

Newest and roughest coaster in the park. It’s such a shame that a brand new ride with a cool layout rides so poorly. If I were Six Flags I would be furious with B&M for delivering such a subpar product.

Can we end by saying something nice?
No. Well, not unless we decide to talk about a much older B&M. Raging Bull is a criminally underrated ride and I absolutely adored it! I went into this trip having heard enthusiasts talk about the incredible first drop but I thought they were exaggerating because, well, the internet. I no longer think that. It’s even better.
