Good to see some long overdue Silver Star lovin'. If it isn't overtrimmed it's such a brilliant coaster. Shame about Shambhala. My morning rides in the middle seats were very dull as well, but thankfully it warmed up and I got front/back rides which redeemed it.
Best new cred: Piraten
Worst new cred: The Big One
Biggest surprise cred: Dragon's Fury
Worst spite: Nothing major this year. Ikaros was the most annoying spite, and then there's the inverted coaster at Tivoli Friheden...
Favorite park of the season: Alton Towers, closely followed by Tivoli...
I never really do massive trips. I prefer shorter ones, because then the parks still feel exciting. After a while I feel that I kind of grow numb. Anyway, I guess my UK trip had the most:
Cannon Hill Park
St Nicholas Park
Drayton Manor
Alton Towers (2 days)
BPB
Thorpe Park
Chessington
Wicksteed...
Agreed with Lynet, it wasn't all that smooth for me sadly. The inversions were a little headbangy and the MCBR airtime crushed my balls a bit. Not rough, but deffo not super smooth either.
Kvasten has always been very smooth to me though. Dunno how the Paultons one rides, but I can't think of a...
I'm pretty sure Python still draws in a lot of Dutch visitors. Mostly for the nostalgia, I assume. But when talking about Efteling with Dutch non-enthusiasts Python gets mentioned so often. It still has a strong reputation as a thrill coaster, most likely for historic reasons and because we grew...
Yeah, Python is by far the most iconic coaster in the Netherlands. Back when it opened it was the biggest coaster in mainland Europe and it marked the beginning for Efteling as a true theme park (rather than just gardens with some rides) and has a lot of significance for theme parks in NL in...
I'm not very fond of them either. Too much effort for getting them to do anything. There wasn't much difference between the sky flies and sky rollers. Funnily enough, the only one I got to spin was the small version at Tivoli Friheden. My fave is the one at Liseberg though because at least the...
Team Helix! I love Taron but there's still a very big gap.
In terms of setting, they're both pretty even to me. Taron is extremely well themed, Helix is not. But Helix has such a great location on the hillside in the city. In this case I take the "real" setting of Helix over the themed setting...
Looking at my top 10:
Helix - Front
Taron - Front, left side
Wildfire - Back
Piraten - Second from back
Nemesis - Love both front and back, but back gets the edge
EGF - Love both but front gets the edge, left side
Shambhala - Front
Silver Star - Front, inside seats
Black Mamba - Front, left...
Even though I love Symbolica (it's a grower), I totally agree that Droomvlucht and Fata Morgana are better. They are two of my fave rides ever actually. If I had to make a top 3 Efteling rides, it would be those two and Joris.
I don't know much about physics, but I'd call any force that gets me out of my seat vertically airtime. If I'm only being pushed sideways without actually getting out of my seat, I think of it as laterals. If it's sideways and vertical, like for example Wildfire and Piraten, it's airtime to me.
You're all a bunch of dicks pointing at each other. Just get back on topic ffs. All of these topics derailing into meaningless arguments is really getting tiring.
Great report! It's great to see someone who really "gets" Efteling. It is indeed a very Dutch park and over here it's universally loved. For foreigners it seems to be much more of a hit/miss park.
You nailed the whole Efteling vs Phantasialand thing. That's exactly how I feel too. Phantasia is...
Anubis - Amazing launch, great top hat and just a great coaster. Fizzles out towards the end sadly.
Lynet - Fab little coaster but it's a tad weaker than Anubis in every aspect and the restraints bothered me a bit more, especially during every airtime moment.
Saw - Mostly forgettable, but it...
I wish I could love Shambhala as much as everybody else, but I couldn't help feeling a bit disappointed. I was expecting more. Maybe I'll change my mind when I re-ride it? Mostly getting middle-seat rides on it due to attrocious seat assignment didn't help either...
I feel that Shambhala is slightly overhyped. I went in expecting it to blow away Silver Star. What I found was a slightly smoother, nicer looking version with a better first drop and a slightly more interesting layout. But I also find the ending much weaker than on Silver Star. So yeah, slightly...
I anticipated that Blade Runner 2049 might be boring after hearing so many stories, but I really didn't have a problem with that. I was so immersed into the film that I didn't mind that they took the time to tell the story. Audio-visually it's a masterpiece. Great atmosphere too. Story-wise it's...
